An on-going passion project from my Master's and PhD research that continues till now. This project focuses on a wide array of areas, including public transport crowding, commuting stress, transport psychology, road safety education, and street and e-hailing. Under this project too, we engaged in collaborations with various governmental agencies and research institutes.

Train Overcrowding: Assessing and Prioritising Demand Management Strategies by Key Stakeholders

This project evaluates strategies for rail demand management through a two-phase study:

  • Phase 1: A systematic appraisal of the literature that identified (i) categories of strategies for managing peak demand in rail services, and (ii) key issues that presented barriers to successful implementation of these strategies.​

  • Phase 2: A survey with transport stakeholders who ranked the identified strategies based on their feasibility, effectiveness, and cost showed that a high priority was placed on four strategies: (1) free early bird incentives, (2) discounted early bird or off peak fares, (3) increasing train frequency, and (4) travel demand management programme.

Social Psychology of Crowd Behaviour During Evacuation

This is a four‐year research collaboration between Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, and International Islamic University Malaysia. In this project, we are interested in investigating social psychological variables that can influence crowd behaviour and crowd management in the context of Hajj. By understanding the social, psychological, and behavioural factors, the development and management of evacuation models will be strengthened. Findings from our six studies have helped in the development of Hajj crowd scales and policy recommendations for hujjaj management.

Ergonomics & Environmental Psychology

This is an ongoing initiative to investigate environmental, workplace, and occupational ergonomics as well as exploring the restorative effects of environments on human beings. For example, we work together with agencies such as NIOSH, Malaysia to develop training modules for OSH practitioners.

Kajian Mengenai Intervensi Keluarga Untuk Pengurangan Pengedaran Dadah Dalam Talian dan Media Baharu

Terdapat keperluan penting untuk membangunkan satu program intervensi keluarga yang mengambil kira isu terkini seperti penggunaan internet dan media baharu dalam penyalahgunaan dadah. Program intervensi ini juga haruslah bersesuaian dengan situasi, budaya, serta keperluan masyarakat tempatan.

 

Kajian ini dibiayai oleh Geran Penyelidikan Ilmiah Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK) 2017 dan melibatkan tiga fasa iaitu (1) fasa kajian analisis keperluan, (2) fasa reka bentuk dan pembangunan modul, dan (3) fasa kajian rintis.

Beberapa cara untuk menangani masalah dadah telah dilakukan oleh Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK) termasuklah melaksanakan Program Family on Alert (FoA) iaitu program intervensi keluarga yang ditujukan khas untuk keluarga yang berisiko tinggi.

 

Kajian ini yang dibiayai oleh Geran Penyelidikan Ilmiah Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK) 2013 bertujuan untuk menilai keberkesanan Program FoA dari perspektif pengetahuan dan kefahaman peserta terhadap modul-modul program berkenaan.

The objective of constructing the IIUM Religiosity Scale (IIUMRelS) is to measure a Muslim’s religious attitude based on the three concepts of iman (cognitive and belief system), islam (acts of worship), and ihsan (affective state). These three concepts, outlined in Hadith Jibril, are assumed to be the defining features of Islam, and is one way of conceptualising religiosity.

Identification of Facilitators and Barriers to Effective Implementation of Islamic Work Ethics in Islamic Banking Institutions

The conceptualisation and outcomes of Islamic work ethics have been established, but, execution of its implementation in Islamic banks has not yet been investigated. In this project, we believe that a mixed-methods research (QUAL-QUAN) can uncover the facilitating factors and barriers of its implementation.

 

  • Study 1: Using qualitative approach, the study explored what is known regarding the factors that facilitate and hinder the implementation of Islamic work ethics and how these factors could affect the implementation process in Islamic banks.​

 

  • Study 2: Quantitative analyses of a survey data from 227 full-time Islamic bank employees were conducted.​

This project was jointly commissioned by TAEN – The Age and Employment Network (now known as The Third Age Employment Network) and Age Concern and Help the Aged (now known as Age UK). It reviewed the scientific and grey literatures on work-related stress with a focus on the implications for an ageing workforce.
